Update on Short-Term-Rentals in Peshastin UGA

In July, the Peshastin Community Council submitted updated definitions of “Lodging Facilities” (including Short-Term Rentals) to Chelan County Community Development (CCCD) to add clarification to what activities are and are not allowed in the various zones within the Peshastin UGA. These definitions specifically allow Lodging Facilities in the commercial and industrial zones, but not in the residential zones R1, R2 or R3, and are in the process of being adopted in to the code.

In August 2019, in relation to a specific complaint, the CCCD Director made a Determination that Short-Term Rentals are not allowed in the Peshastin UGA, based on what is currently in code 11.22.030. That decision was appealed on December 4, 2019, and the hearing examiner upheld the Director's Determination in a ruling presented on December 31st. Click here to read a copy of the ruling.

Penalties for code violations are $750 for first-time violations and $1,500 for repeat violations, per Chelan County Code 16.16.010 Assessment schedule.

Peshastin Water District (PWD)
Proposed Merger with Chelan County PUD

Public meetings have indicated a positive response toward the proposed merger. We are currently working on the details and more information will be presented as it becomes available..
The commissioners of the Peshastin Water District (PWD) have proposed a merger of the PWD with the Chelan County PUD. The initial proposal was presented in a public meeting on November 16, 2018. The PUD is NOT trying to take over the PWD. The PWD is seeking a merger due to "economy of scale," with the idea that the management and extreme costs associated with operating a small utility can be better supported by a larger organization and larger customer base. Again, this is a proposal. Nothing has been decided nor have any terms or conditions been finalized.

The PUD has completed a preliminary review of the PWD proposal and the District has received a response letter with some initial thoughts.

The next step was a series of public meetings for public comment, questions, and to discuss potential further actions. The meetings were held April 10, May 8 and May 22, 2019 with unanimous agreement from residents to proceed with a merger.

Additional notices will be sent out as things develop. Please click the CONTACT button in the menu to add your name and email address to our contact list. You may also make comments from that same form.
